NGS Sequencing Quality Control

Available Dates

No public dates currently available for this course

In NGS sequencing you want to be able to identify problems in your data as early as possible to save wasted effort and to allow you to apply corrections. This course looks at the ways you can assess the quality of NGS data, the different types of failure you can have, and the options for ways to correct any issues you identify. It covers both the theory of how Illumina sequencing works, and the practical early stage analysis of this data.

It is important to understand where our data comes from so we start by looking at how illumina sequencing chemistry works. We look at the file formats used to distribute this data, and how the information in them is derived. We then look at how this process can go wrong, both how quality natrually degrades, or how problems in the sequencing can cause more dramatic failures.
We now go through a more complete exploration of the different types of failure which can affect a sequencing experiment. We look at the QC programs which produce useful metrics to identify them, and we see how they can be resolved.
