Course Structure

Each of our courses consists of a series of video lectures which cover all of the theory and practice of the topic you're studying. Lectures are given by bioinformaticians or statisticians with many years of practical experience in the areas being taught. Videos can be played as many times as you like.

After the lectures are practicals which put the theory of the lecture into practice. Each of the questions can be tackled directly, or you can use the provided hints to give you pointers toward the correct approach or answer.

Finally, each set of questions is accompanied by a video walk-through of the answers, showing how the questions could have been addressed, and giving pointers towards best practice and topics for further study.

Software Environments

We appreciate that many of our courses require the use of specialised pieces of software, and may require access to either levels of computation or operating systems which you may not have easily available to you. To allow you to easily participate on our courses we have developed cloud based training environments which you can set up on an Amazon cloud server, and then access through your web browser.

For each course we provide configuration information with the details of how to set up your environemnt. All of the software and data you'll need for the course will be there. You can use this for the course, but you can also use the same system for your own work at any time. Below is a video which explains how our software environments work - this same information is provided with every course.
